Located in Songjiang University Town, Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES) library (hereafter called the library) was officially put into use in October 2005. The library is M shape and has five floors, with a total area of more than 27000 square meters.

According to SUES’s discipline layout of giving priority to engineering technology discipline and developing both economic management discipline and art design discipline as the two wings, the library not only has collected a variety of professional literatures, but also attaches great importance to construction of automation, networking and information. Through continuous efforts, the library has formed a comprehensive literature resource system, in which paper resources and digital resources coexist and actual resources and available resources complement each other, making itself a service library for teaching and scientific research characterized with multiple functions, diverse document carriers and advanced service facilities and means.

Inside the library, there are six reading rooms, one periodical reading room, one electronic reading room, one students reading room and several teachers' study and research roomsproviding as many as two thousand reading seats. The library adopts the full-open service mode of simultaneity of lending and reading, and offers WIFI service inside and VPN remote access service outside the campus. According to statistics, the number of Chinese-foreign paper documents has reached 1.7 million and foreign and domestic journals over 3000. A variety of resources collection structures broaden the service channels, providing effective and prompt literature support for teaching and scientific research of the whole university.

The library’s automation system was constructed in 1998, which offers a great variety of services for all the faculty and students, such as directory look-up, book recommendation, inter-library loan, document delivery,  sci-tech novelty retrieval, book reservation, book renewal, virtual reference, database retrieval, online video on demand, thematic lectures, and celebrity forum. These abundant collection resources, advanced management methods, convenient information service and good applicative effectiveness have provided strong support for teaching, scientific research and discipline construction.
